Start, dash!

A month’s worth of thoughts condensed into five blocks coming at you!

Being at UP isn’t easy – One of the first things that I had to hammer into my brain was that this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. Being at UP is a position of privilege, but you have to work for that position even once you’re inside. You can’t let yourself get complacent and stagnate; as a UP student, you should always be trying to one-up yourself in every chance that you get!

Diligence beats talent – Going into the UP, you should be expecting it to challenge you in ways that will be totally unfamiliar. It will bring you out of your comfort zone and push your limits. There will be many things assigned to you to do so you best keep your wits and your diligence about you. The early bird always gets the worm.

Take it easy, when you need to – While there may be pressure, you need to learn to balance it with relaxation as well. There are a lot of recreational spots around the campus and elbi itself. Unwind around the many karaokes bars and restos around and find where you like to hang out with who you like to hang out with. Rest is just as important as staying on top of all the things you have to accomplish.

The boat is sinking, group yourselves into… – Get as many friends as possible. I cannot stress this enough. The way you survive in this first month, and I expect, the most of your stay is together. Study sessions with multiple people and a lot of discussions during your vacant periods will surely prove effective. Collaborate and have fun!

Put your words into action: Start, dash! – Remember to set goals, and remember to constantly work towards them. Putting your words into action, especially as a devcom student, is your virtue and your way of life. You live by putting yourself to action and mobilizing causes for the greater good. Remember, you’re in UP, you are destined for greater things; put yourself to it. Start, dash!
