Time goes by like a flash and little did I know I already spent 30 days, 4 weeks, and a total span of a month in UPLB, this is very enthralling for me because as cliche as it may seem everything just feels like yesterday. My relationship to the university as a Devcom student is similar to a whirlwind romance. But although days and time flew quickly, I have discovered and instilled a lot of values and learnings on how to navigate life in the university and here is my top 5:
- Hard work brings optimum results. This statement means that as a Devcom student or just a plain student in general is we need to focus and put effort to everything we do. May it be an assigned task or voluntary work we must apply hard work for us to gain good outputs and value for all the tasks we have done.
- Never enter the shooting range with your guns unloaded. This trait applies to the everyday battles we face in different subjects. We should always be at least aware of the topics that will be discussed and topics that had already been discussed by our professors so if sudden questions are asked and surprise quizzes happens we have come prepared.
- Social discourse is important. This statement pertains to our ability as students to establish rapport to our fellow students and mentors as well. By practicing this we create a bond with them that could help us grow as an individual and to flourish not only on academic life but on social life as well.
- If you had enough, take a break. This simply means that studying and wanting to achieve high grades can be very pressuring especially in a freshmen’s life that is why from time to time we need to take rest especially when we are burnt out. This will also help us to have stability in mindset that could help us think clearly and function properly.
- Don’t quit. The beginnings are always the hardest. This statement clearly emphasizes that since our college journey had just already started, we should never be too melancholic about the failures we might have. Because this will shape us to be better or even to be the best versions of ourselves.
Because in the end all that we aspire to survive college and bring change.
And of course to earn that ‘sablay’ we always dreamed of.
