New beginning.

August 5, 2019 the start of a new beginning.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

It still feels surreal that I’m attending classes at my dream university. I’m so blessed because I knew that a lot of people wanted to study here, but only a few survived or chosen. It was a long process to reach my dream/goal and that is to study here at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. I’ll never waste this opportunity and do my best to deserve this privilege.

It’s officially a month since we entered the college and requirements, papers, readings, and exams are already piling up. Though we haven’t completely adjusted to the thrilling and hard college life, we can do say we have picked up some lessons alongside the way that we’ll be capable to use in the subsequent months or so. There were struggles, but I learned a lot from them.

In those 30 days, it was challenging facing a new environment and people. There were a lot of changes, especially the workload that I had then in my previous university. These challenges made me more courageous in facing new challenges that I will face every day. And here are some of my learning thus far:

Accept your failures or mistakes.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Winston Churchill

They said when you entered UP, it’s not always rainbows and butterflies and that is true, there will come a time that you’ll be facing storms too. You should be prepared when that time comes. In spite of what the result of each challenge brings you, the main thing is that you gain from it and you become a better individual. You get more organized and strong than you were before, which I can tell is an achievement yet.

Always come prepared.

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.

Benjamin Franklin

When you go to class you must review or study your lessons in advance for if ever you have a quiz or recitation you can answer. In field work you must have your letter signed by your professor it is used as a confirmation of the reason why are you going to that site or office. Always bring your umbrella because weather in Los Baños is unpredictable.

Take a break and keep going

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

Since there are many requirements to do it often gives us pressure. We would fret and will lose sleep or eventually give up and surrender to God or whoever someone up out there take the rest. It would never hurt us remind ourselves once in a while that we should have a break and take a breath for even just a few minutes. Stretch your body, check your social media, or even just look around and smile. Always find time for a short break and then come back to your requirements and feel less stressed after that. Ask God or supreme being for guidance and help, then continue to do your work.

Know your go-to places.

Tara! Saan tayo tatambay?

Our schedules are seldom hectic and sometimes full. Search for spaces where you can stay to make your tasks, study or even sleep. I could recommend that these places that are most helpful to stay are in the CDC’s Reading Room and UPLB Main Library’s Basement. Try to find out where to eat that fits your allowance, where to rest, where to purchase supplies for school, and where to print materials that you need for a course. You can print your documents in the CDC’s News Room and Interactive Learning System.

(Be) A shoulder to lean on.

I’ll be with you through ups and downs. You can count on me. I’ll support you in anything that I can. *HUG*

My best bloc CD2

It’s good to form a support system in college, especially knowing how tiring and heavy it can be. Use your DevCom skill in talking and establish rapport with others. Extend your place as much as you can. Talk to individuals in your bloc, speak to your seatmate, go to university activities, go out there and socialize. You could just encounter individuals with whom you can study group, people with whom you can eat, people with whom you can chat, individuals with whom you can relax and individuals with whom you can share the college experience.
