Buhay Pridyider: Lessons from the Fridge

The refrigerator in my house is so intelligent,
because it is
SHARP.

Funny Leone

Oftentimes we tend to push through our limits with the intention of bringing out the best within ourselves. Ever since we were young, we were always reminded to do things a 100% if we expect for the best. That we need to amp it up and for the sake of drama, pour our heart, mind, body and soul to our work. There is nothing wrong in doing your best, however, doing your best doesn’t entirely mean to overwork. Even machines take time and stop to avoid overheating and malfunction.

Human as we are, hectic work schedule and a long list of things “to-do” is not an excuse. Our BODY needs to REST, and our MIND needs to CALM DOWN. Every now and then we need to CHILL. Previously, I made a clear statement that even machines slow down and what could be a more perfect example of a machine (an appliance to be certain) that knows how to chill than everybody’s home best friend. Here are some tips on how to chill like a refrigerator.

UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY

Anyone who’s ever put a stamp on an envelope or a note on their refrigerator knows what it’s like to make a collage. There’s no esoteric technique.

Elliott Hundley

Many people will argue that not everyone is an artist. What they fail to realize is that we are artists in our own right and that we are more creative than we think we are. There’s always that quirky side behind our straight thinking and what is best to do is embrace this quirky side. You may wonder, “I thought we need to rest? Why do I have to waste my time drawing or coloring, doing stuff? It’s better to just do my work than take a pause and do unrelated work.” Well, art is therapeutic. It eases tension, calms the mind and provides a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment once it’s done. Sometimes, to continue, we just need something that will remind us of our worth and art does that.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT

If we’re not meant to have midnight snacks,
why is there a light in the fridge?

I’m not saying or encouraging you to stuff yourselves full as it can cause some serious problems in the near future. What I mean is to for you to eat food that satisfies you or eat the food that you love. It isn’t anymore about “if I deserve it or not” rather “you deserve it and you can do it.” Food can take you to places and allows you to be productive. Not only can it provide for your well-being and your physical needs but also contribute for a collective mind. Food can also be a source of information, so, never ever deprive yourself of food. You can’t achieve your best on an upset stomach.

STREAM N’ CHILL

I spend a lot of time holding the refrigerator door open
looking for answers.

Any time is date time. Date time with movies, dates with TV series, dates with books, comics, anime, random videos in YouTube, listening to music, you name it. With the advent of the internet anything is just a click away and so are simple moments that can give you joy and can brighten up your day. In tough moments where you might think time is not your friend, you don’t need to fight it instead embrace it and unwind. You might be surprised but chilling out online, watching movies or listening to music can actually can bombard you with wonderful ideas and calms your mind for a time. That way, you can focus more on the task at hand while you regain composure and strength. P.s. Just don’t get carried away. Your aim is to pass the time not to kill it.

STOP OVERTHINKING

My theory on housework is, if the item doesn’t multiply, smell, catch fire or block the refrigerator door, let it be. No one else cares. Why should you?

Erma Bombeck

It’s all in your head. Most of the time, we do not realize that what hinders us to progress are ourselves. It isn’t a bad thing to aim for perfection but even if we get there, we are sometimes troubled by our disappointments. It’s best to stop complicating things as this can trigger anxiety and nervousness. Be true to your plans and follow your heart. Relax and don’t rush yourself. More importantly believe that you can do it. If it can’t be help then take a short pause and breathe. P.s. Don’t forget to breathe.

SMILE

Smile. That’s it. Even in the toughest of times, never forget to smile. That is the easiest way to chill and that is realizing that there will always be hope. Most importantly, do not isolate yourself. It pays to hang around with friends and families. One way or another, you will learn from all of them.

Life is like a refrigerator; you get what you want out of it and know what consequences may come if you are not moderate of choice.
