Personal Note

The semester is gearing to an end and there are a lot of things that I have already experienced and learned from. Being in the university for almost 4 months now have been nothing but studying and at the same time having a fun time with new found friends and family. I do not normally speak or talk to myself but if I am given the chance to give myself some advice on how to handle or prepare for the semester, here is what I would tell myself:

Pasko sa Elbi 2019 – Hoping to still participate in campus activities every sem. It helps the mind to breathe and allows us to enjoy for a while.

Dear self,

It has been one hell of a ride. You’ve gone through tough and easy times and I think you have learned a lot from your experiences. You still have many semesters to go before you can finally finish a step in reaching your dreams. However, finishing one sem is still a great achievement especially knowing that you gave it your all. Next semester, you will be facing a lot more and I hope that you will take into account everything that I would tell you. I wish I could’ve told you this during the first day of classes but I didn’t get the chance to do so. So, I am telling you everything now.

Please start the semester with positivity – Having a positive attitude during the sem would help you cope up and see everything in a different light. If you started your sem with a negative attitude and you think that everything you do would fail, eventually you would lose the energy and will to study. Let us not dwell on negativity and try to reimagine things.

Learn to have time for yourself – It is true that sometimes you lose time for yourself because of activities and requirements. However, you should make it a point to still have time for yourself – for you to relax and do the things you want to do. Take a break and enjoy the things you like the most. If you rest once in a while, you’ll feel recharged and have the capacity to do acad things again.

Avoid cramming as much as possible – There will come a time that you will be doing other things instead of things you are supposed to do. Eventually, you’ll have smaller time to complete the tasks and start cramming. The next time around, try to avoid it as much as possible. You would have a much better output and result if you do things ahead of time. In that way, you can still check and review any output or presentation you have.

Never settle for ‘pwede na’ – Sometimes, when we do things, we do it fast and compromise the quality of our work. We settle for things that are ‘pwede na’. We say okay to mediocrity. It does not mean that being mediocre is not okay. But maybe, in everything that you do, you should aim for excellence but make it a point that we got there because of our perseverance and goals.

Save up for later – This comes in two different aspects – money and grades. Sometimes we spend and not think about future expenses. This becomes problematic when we have emergency things to pay for. The next time around, please be wise on how you manage your resources. About grades, as early as possible, fill your bank with positive results so that when the sem will be over, you will not be worried about your grades. You would just sit back and relax and wait for the positive results you have been waiting for.

I am hoping that for the next semesters to come, I would practice my own tips and advice. Being able to study and live in an orderly manner would definitely benefit me. Also, being able to tell myself these things would help me not to repeat the same mistakes again, to achieve better results and to make my family proud.

Lab Class – Even if there are a lot of exercises, we finished it all. Hopefully next time, without cramming.
