On the beginning of the semester, we were asked to rate our qualities and skills as a media writer. Throughout the semester, we learned how to hone and use these qualities and skills during class discussions and exercises. Every week we got exposed to different mediums and how to write for these mediums and their audiences. Now that the semester has come to an end, I can say that I was able to apply all the lessons I’ve learned in this class.
Qualities
- Curious or inquisitive
- Imaginative
- Puts a premium on accuracy and truth
- Loves to read
- Interested in and loves people
- Service-oriented
- Industrious
- Resourceful
- Intelligent
- Persevering
“[I]f I were to rate myself, I can say with full confidence that I possess the first six qualities mentioned above while the remaining four, especially the latter two, not so much.”, was the statement I wrote on our 2nd week of Weekly Writes. Now on the 18th week, I can still say that I am confident on the first six qualities, and also on the last four qualities. Our discussions in class as well as exposure to various types of media taught me different strategies and approaches on writing for media.
I also mentioned back then on how I need to become more persevering because I am someone who easily gives up. Now, while there are still times when I want to give up, I still push thru with what I have to do as I become more motivated throughout the semester. I still cram and rush my works or tasks but I now always remind myself to do the best output I can do given the time I have so that I can be satisfied and further motivate myself to improve.
Skills
- Validating and clarifying information
- Organizing information
- Gathering data
- Writing clearly and effectively
- Proficiency in the operation of communication tools/devices
Back then, I wrote how I need to improve Proficiency in the operation of communication tools/devices because I was not yet exposed to the various communication tools or devices and I still had to learn how to operate them. Now, after all the exercises we’ve done along with the examples shown to us during lecture discussions, I now know how to operate and use these tools and devices and I am excited to be able to learn more about them in future Dev Com classes.
In general, I can definitely say that my qualities and skills as a media writer has improved during the past few weeks. With these Weekly Writes, I got to practice how to properly write and communicate what I would want to share and I am extremely grateful for it. And while this final weekly write will end with the semester, this is only the beginning for writing more outputs for CDC and the community.
