After a whole semester of gathering data, writing for different platforms and producing media contents, I am glad that I was able to work on the qualities and skills that I need to acquire as a media writer.
Through the different exercises and activities, I have learned to be more curious and inquisitive. Asking questions is important especially if you do not have enough knowledge about a topic or an event. Your curiosity will lead you to the information that you will need in doing your job right. Being intelligent does not mean that you just know a lot of things. This course has taught that this quality also involves sharing your knowledge to people and do not keep it to yourself. I also learned to be more imaginative. There were activities where we need to use our imagination to visualize the output. Although I still have to work on this quality to make my outputs more creative in the future. This can be achieved through improving my love for reading. From the beginning, we were always told to read a lot. I think this is still the quality that I need to work on the most.
During the semester, I further developed my skills in gathering data as well as validating, clarifying and organizing information. This was because of the laboratory exercises and Weekly Writes activities assigned to us. I still have to work on writing clearly and effectively through writing for different media. I am also hoping that I will be acquiring more knowledge and proficiency in the operation of communication tools and devices in higher devcom courses.
