Among the qualities listed, which quality would be the one that you need to work on the most? Why?
The quality that I still need to work on the most is reading. I’m not really a person who loves reading. I easily get bored when I read. I’m more on watching movies or series instead of reading a book or novel. I only read when it’s for school purposes but not for my leisure time. I know that this is required skill for media writer since this will help develop our own writing style so I still need to improve myself on this.
Given your ratings, what keeps you from getting that 1.00 self-rating?
I still need to improve myself and try to have more confidence to do all the qualities that a media writer should have. I should also keep myself more motivated to be able to accomplished it.
Among the skills listed, which skill have you developed the highest competency? What contributed to the development of that skill?
The skill that I have developed with the highest competency is the proficiency in the operation of communication tools/devices since I’m a techie person and loves to explore gadgets and other stuffs related to it.
Among the skills listed, which skill would be the one that you need to work on the most to develop? Why?
The skill that I need to work on the most to develop is writing clearly and effectively because I don’t know how to clearly express myself of what I want to write/say. I have the ability to write but I don’t have enough confidence to back it up.

There are numerous methods of data gathering to use in exploring or seeking information. However, one must consider the orientation of the research study to acquire the desired data.
For this week’s activity, we as a group are asked to get essential information from Brgy. Anos located 2.7-2.9 km from the University of The Philippines Los Baños. As we gather, we had employed the interviewing method to get the desired data. We had applied this method because there is direct communication between two or more people, wherein the transfer of information from one person to another is clear and effectively delivered and understood. Therefore, there is a smooth flow of conversation, which is very crucial in the process of data gathering. Also, this technique is easy to utilize compared to other methods and is suitable to use in our activity.
The group used interview the most because it’s easier to gather data or information using this method.
We have learned a lot from this activity and so, to
be able to obtain the goal of your research inquiries, here are the three tips
that will serve as a guide to help you gather information appropriately:
The first tip that a development communication student must always remember when it comes to the gathering of information is to be familiar with the method or technique that you will use. You must know the right method in the collection of the data because it will play a significant role in your research or study. Furthermore, it will be easy on your part as you already have a definite background on how you are going to utilize it for research purposes.
The second tip that will aid you in conducting information-gathering activities is to focus on your objectives. Objectives will direct you to your goals and boundaries when it comes to seeking information. As such, it will help you avoid distractions and will help you achieve the right information that you are seeking.
The third and final tip that we believe is very helpful is having a schedule for such inquiries. Creating a schedule is significant in organizing your data collection activities. It helps in avoiding a hectic data collection process and is stress-free. Besides, through scheduling, one can plan ahead of time. Thus, the process will be very easy to conduct, and adjustments can be easily done.
Additional Tips:
Do the tasks given to you as soon as possible.
Do not cram or procrastinate.
Have confidence especially when talking to other people.

She wants to find something she wanted all along, somewhere she belongs.
There was a girl named Althea, who at first knew what she wanted to become, to be a Civil Engineer. She was introduced to this kind of field because her father was an Architecture graduate and from there, a dream of becoming one was made. Since then, all her goals were just set to achieve that dream. When she was finally near to enter college, she started to question herself if that was what she really wanted to be in the future. Out of all the college entrance examinations, she only took the UPCAT exam. It was UP or nothing for her because even though she wanted to take other exams and try to study in Manila, her parents didn’t allow her. It is a difficult situation since her future only depends on that result. It almost got her to the point that she will just take whatever course as long as it is UP. Long story short, she passed the UPCAT (UP Mindanao, Computer Science) and got reconsidered in UP Los Baños with the course, BS Development Communication.
Althea is an adventurer. She likes to explore new things and travel around places. In every place she has been to, she always makes sure to document it by taking numerous photos and videos since she’s a memory hoarder and loves to look back on every special event in her life. She is also a ‘techie’ person and loves to explore gadgets. One thing is for sure, she’s always on her phone. She devoted all her free time scrolling through social media and surfing the net. Reading books is not really her thing Rather than reading books, she is more interested in watching movies and series. Writing and giving speeches gives her a lack of confidence because she’s not really good at expressing her thoughts and opinions.
Taking DevCom as her course will be really challenging for her since majority of her interests were not really related and contradicts it. She wanted to step out of her comfort zone so she can discover of what she’s capable of doing. Maybe, God directed her towards this path because He knew that she may discover some talents, especially in the field of communication, she didn’t know she has. It is exciting for her to see how this degree program will mold her into something that she can’t even imagine she can become. She hopes that she can improve and overcome her fears. This will help her learn a lot which she can use to survive and finish this degree program.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
