Before the semester ends
My whole semester has been a whirlwind romance. During my stay as a Development Communication student at UPLB it really had helped a lot in fostering my improvement and growth.
The 5 months had been indeed really tough but nonetheless it taught me valuable lessons and visible and positive changes happened to me.
Looking back to my first assessment, one of the qualities that I really need to improve is being interested in and passionate about people. Because as I have mentioned on my first assessment I am kinda introverted and shy as a person but what really amazed me is taking Devcom as a course would really challenge and improve my social and interaction skills. Starting from interviewing different individuals up to professionals which really helped me overcome my fear of talking to others. As a development communicator, I have learned that it is very vital to practice my communication skills because this is essential in our field of experience.
If i would assess myself to this moment, I would still refrain myself from giving a 1.00 rating for the reason that I have always believed that there should be always room for improvement and I myself would never be perfect but my aspiration on being perfect would always be my motivation.
When it comes to skills which I needes to improve the most which is proficiency in the operation of communication tools/devices as of the moment I am still learning it and still on the proccess of mastering it.
Finally, I wanna end this by saying that all of this is just still an overview and the begining and I am looking forward for more fruitful semesters tk come.
Padayon to me!Padayon to every isko and iska!

Backtrack
Looking back to me and my old self before I entered UP, I am pretty much aware that my journey as a freshman this first semester has been a taciturn of events. Its very nostalgic how time flies so fast and here I am sitted in a couch reminiscing everything. To be honest this had been the toughest 5 months of my life that left me mind wrecked but also gave me a lot of lessons.
So if ever I am going to give my old self advice it will be:
- Accept Failures. I am not perfect, and It happens to make me more humane. A failed test do not mean a failure in life but a lesson to do better next time.
- Always keep your head above water. Even though college works may be drowning we must always be composed and manage our time wisely
- Enjoy the little things. May it be a good quiz score up to a nice meal and a complete 8 hour sleep we should always value things that gives us smiles on our faces.
- Spend time with your blockmates. They are your second family and colleagues and besides you may not be with them the next semester you will miss them for sure so don’t miss out!
- Pray. Above anything else we should always remember to pray more. Academic is a priority but faith should always be intack.
All of these are just tips that I think I should have given my self notice and practiced more nevertheless my first semester has been a veri difficult mountain hike. What’s important is we should always start strong and finish strong.
At the end of the day we should always make ourselves proud!
Padayon!😊
Ting!ting!ting!Here comes the Golden Bell
Cabuyao City was known before as the “Richest Municipality in the Philippines”. This was due to the fact of the large imigrants who work in the city. There are also lots of industrial estates in the city which include Nestle Philippines, Asia Brewery, Inc., San Miguel Corporation, Tanduay Distillers, Inc., Wyeth Philippines, Inc., Procter and Gamble Philippines, Light Industry and Science Park of the Philippines and Malayan Colleges.
Not only these are the highlight of the city but also people themselves. Cabuyao is known for hardworking and hospitable citizens that in every week the plaza or town proper is filled with vendors and locals that buy different products and supplies.
it also caters different types of festivals such as:
Batingaw Festival – A festivity commemorating the legendary Kampanang Ginto which Cabuyao is known. The celebration always starts with the simultaneous ringing of church bells, which Cabuyeños believe that it brings good agricultural harvest.
Cabuyao Day – It consists a week long celebration starting from a Parade of Floats of each barangay, in which the decorations of each float feature and showcase the way of living of the community of each barangay of Cabuyao. Followed by Street Dancing Competition at the City Proper, in which all College and High Schools compete for the said competition. The celebration also includes different amateur shows like Orchestra, Music Band and Celebrity shows at the City Plaza.
That is why as a cabuyeña I am loud and proud to represent cabuyao it is a perfect epitome of a city that is industrial yet still showcases how hard working the people are and how lively the city is.
So what are you waiting for?Discover the candid beauty of Cabuyao Laguna and as they say:

Chillin’ like a Villain
Being a college student is one of the very tedious and tiring aspect of a persons life. It is an era wherein education turns to a responsibilty and we are expected and pressured to comply to every work our professors assigned us up to passing every exam which might be too overwhelming and blow our minds.
But fear not because here are some of my on-hand tips on how to stay cool, comfy, chill, and to keep your head above water amidst the flooding stess college life gives:
- If you tend to have free time sleep like a baby.
Not exaggerating things but sleep is the most deprived privilege from every college student during their college life and it is considered rare and an ultimate luxury if you have 8 hours of peaceful sleep due to deadlines and endless all nighters and studying that is why in free time especially at weekends and in lucky occasions when classes are cancelled it is highly suggested that we sleep and recharge our bodies to have enough strength and energy.
2. Always and always eat like a spartan.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DB7v_x9MMa94xW-xOLenKy8SlIKRPKb1/view?usp=drivesdkI know for sure that as college students we are perpetually stress and one of the best ways to relieve it is by eating a lot. We should always sat snacks from time to time especially when reviewing and also invite our colleagues to eat with us to different food places and restos near our university—foodtrip at its finest!
3. Get drunk. Responsibly.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DB93sgJebwNvD7dNUzEthAScLPirs-oq/view?usp=drivesdkThis last tip may be a little controversial but for me it is a matter of preference and also a must-try may it be a couple glasses of wine, bottles of beer, up to shots of vodka it is okay to unwind and go to parties to chill at your free time. By this i don’t mean to be wasted and blackout drunk but the purpose of this is to calm our nerves and keep us relaxed. This could also give us chance to socialize to other people, make memories, and have fun. But we must always aware of our limitations. Again this is optional and is preferential.
To conclude, college life is nothing but a roller coaster ride and we must always choose to enjoy it. We must learn to pacify ourselves and do things that makes us happy.
Even if its a little scary(;.
What does it mean to be an ‘iskolar ng bayan?’
University of the Philippines Los Baños. UPLB as we all know celebrates their 101st Loyalty Day last October 10,2019. A commemoration not only to the university’s heritage but to alums as well and for the 48 year-old OVCAA faculty Mrs. Aggie Marasigan- Mora it is indeed a day to uplift and remember.
“Batch 1988 ako pero di ako UPCAT passer. Nagcertificate in forestry ako for 2 years and then BS Forestry.”she said when I asked her the question how did she got in to UP.
When I asked about why she choosed UP as a school for college she answered…”Nung time namin sobrang hirap ng buhay kay napilitan akong pumasok ng UP kasi libre yung tuition ko nun kasi mahirap lang kami. STFAP pa kami nun 600 per month ang stipend.”
“Struggle kami nun, balance bet yung pressure sa acads and survival sa daily existence. Pero strong kami as students nun. Pantay pantay lang kami walang masyadong mayaman nun.”Mrs. Mora said reminiscing her UPLB as I asked her what her struggles are as an scholar.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14ndq7LquxMnVBXy-xpYWVNH8JdgISB8J/view?usp=drivesdk“Pero noon pa man pag iska ka, proud ka!” she cheerfully uttered like she is still this college girl way back in the 80’s
“For me UP is my new found home, di na nga ko malis dito eh, after I graduated I decided na dito na din ako magtatrabaho.”
“I had experienced loyalty day a lot of times and it always feels like yesterday. For me loyalty day is one of the highlights of a UPLB student’s life.”she ended as I asked her what is the importance of Loyalty Day to her.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14r_AmZByd44wvAB4BaL6BBRdFS7_h1eY/view?usp=drivesdkTo end, Mrs. Mora is only one of the many UPLB alums that not only shown love for the university but also gave commitment and respect to it which is the focal point of what being an ‘iskolar ng bayan’ and that is to always be there to love, fight, and serve for the country.
Approaching Milestones: #ObleAwaits
Heat. Pressure. Long lines. Aspiring Iskos and Iskas.
That is what I had witnessed on October 5 and 6 around the UPLB campus that brings me a rush of nostalgia. Because just like them a year ago I am standing in one of those lines dreaming to be a UP student and who would have thougth that it would come true. I am now a certified iska.
University of the Philippines College Admission Test. That is what UPCAT stands for. But for the 17 year old Forsha Mae Salud, it is so much more—its way beyond.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11PBhZs2nTHwNKNk-lZnGdRJEqXXH-i3W/view?usp=drivesdkBeing an asipiring iska as she is, I asked her why did she take the UPCAT and she answered and I quote, “Hmmm gusto ko po itry kase as an consistent honor student pangarap ko rin po talaga makapasok sa up kase iba po talaga ang tinggin sa iyo pag up student ka kaya po nagtry ako magtake baka po palaring makapasok hehe.” Which is a very common reason and stigma why students wanted to study at UP. They perceive the campus to be premiere and they believe that having the chance to study here is such a privilege.
Commuting all the way from Batangas to Los Baños, Forsha did not have any guardian or parent to accompany her during the exams. “Busy po kasi sila kasi both po sila may work kaya ako na lang po mag-isa pumunta. Kinakabahan po ako pero laban lang!hahaha” she jokingly said to me.
‘Tingin mo ba makakapasa ka?‘
That’s the final question that I asked which she confidently answered and I quote. “Di ko po masabi kung madali or mahirap po yung exams pero para po sakin palarin man po or di palarin to pass the exam I am still greatful that I took the test kasi po once in a life time opportunity po toh para sakin.” Which really impressed me not only because of her fighting spirit but also because of her optimism and humbleness.
To end, I wish not only her the best of luck but also all the UPCAT takers this year. Padayon future iskos and iskas! Always put honor and excellence for the country and be an ‘iskolar ng bayan, para sa bayan.’ And surely for all of you Oble awaits.
