As students taking BS Development Communication in University of the Philippines Los Baños, many will approach and ask, “What is DevCom?,” “Is it like MassCom, but with a heart?,” or “What jobs/opportunities will you get from taking DevCom course?” At first, we have no idea what to say. After weeks studying, we now have answers to those questions. Here is a video introducing Development Communication and the top three questions answered by BS DevCom freshmen students.
It’s been 4 months since the semester started and now it’s finally over. Over the 4 months I’m in CDC, I can truly say that I’ve learned a lot, academically and even life learning. Academically speaking, I gained so much knowledge on what I entered and made me inspired and improved my skills more.
Based on my past self-ratings, I know in myself that I’m not really into reading but because of what I entered, which is as being a development-communicator-in-training, I should learn to be passionate about reading because I believe it is one of the foundations of being a development communicator. So, as I accomplished my 1st semester, little by little, I am practicing myself to be more interested in reading any texts, not just because it is I need to but I have to for the betterment of my skills and also myself as an aspiring development communicator.
Through numerous interviews I had, may it be expert or MOS, I did it all on my own. Because back in high school, I am used to conduct interviews in group and not alone but now I had my courage to be independent in order to accomplish my task on my own. And for me that is a lot of improvement.
Also, through the numerous weekly writes and other writing activities, I was able to practice more myself on how to properly organize my information between paragraphs. As the saying goes, “practice makes you perfect”, I finally live with that line but I don’t believe in being perfect because I know that everyone of us has still room for improvement.
One semester is down but more to go and I’m looking forward for more academic learning and life lessons to be unfold as my journey as development-communicator-in-training continues.
Kaya halina’t ating tunghayan ang gandang dulot ng T U M A U I N I, I S A B E L A.
Pasko sa Elbi 2019 – Had a great experience on this and hoping for more memorable experience with these amazing people.
It has been 4 months since I entered University of the Philippines Los Banos and now, 1st semester is about to end. But if I could go back to my first day here, here are my five tips to my old self I shoud’ve done before.
Finish everything right away if you have time. To avoid cramming, it’s best to do all the things you have to do because it is you, yourself, will suffer. Learn to prioritize the things what’s more important before anything else. Self, every second in college is precious, so make the most out of it.
Don’t let negativity affects you. In college, negativities are unavoidable. But you should not let yourself get affected by those. Instead, always look on the brighter side and let the negativities go away.
It’s okay to cry. You can’t let yourself to smile everytime even though you’re having a hard time. All of us here in university are having difficulties and it is your choice to enter UPLB, so you must endure the consequences. Crying is good for the soul, so cry out and let go all your worries.
Don’t hesitate on the things you want to do. Never doubt your capabilities because I know you can do it as long as it is what you want. Do all the things you love the most, the things which makes you happy. Don’t let someone or something hinder you from doing what you want. If you know that you are good on something, do it and trust yourself.
Love yourself more. No one will love you more than yourself. Yes, you are flawed but it is what makes you Catherine. You may not be as good as others, it’s okay because you can still try and do your best in everything you do.
Even though I had a hard time in my first semester here in university, the people I met made it worth remembering for and pushed me to strive more and survive the college life until the end.
Mi loves – it’s so nice to have you all, I’m proud to what we’ve done and endured this semester.
I’m proud of what you’ve done and on what you have become, self. You still have a long road to take, so hang in there, self. I know you can do it and the fruitful success is waiting for you at the end of the road. So be strong because you have Him and He is guiding you on your journey.

Development-communicators-in-training are not just excelling in academics, but they surely can dominate the field of sports as well.
CDCiklaban is an event wherein the students from the College of Development Communication showcase their strengths in various physical activities. These includes basketball, badminton, volleyball, and many more. One of the most awaited events during the CDCiklaban is the Mr. and Ms. CDCikblaban which proves that DevCom students both possesses beauty and brains. With that here are the candidates of this year’s pageant:
Amidst all the deadly requirements and exams this semester, I never forget to give myself some time to unwind. Whenever I feel super stressed, whenever I think I can’t do it anymore, whenever I feel I want to give up, I stop and think why I am doing this, and here are some on how I de-stress and unwind.
Spending time with my friends who give positive vibes is one of my favorite things to do to cope up whenever I’m feeling stressed in acads. Also, one video call from my family will be the nicest thing to feel motivated in college life.
Netflix would be my best buddy when I’m unwinding from acads. Watching my favorite movies and series would definitely de-stressed me from all the requirements and exams.
Rosemarie Dumlao Ranchez is an alumna of UPLB. She studied in the university for four years. She graduated from BS Biology and from Batch 2004.
All the way from province of Isabela, the university taught her to be independent and be wiser. In order to survive her daily life in university, she needed to learn to be dependent on her own because her family is far from her. And being wiser is the biggest learning she had to be happy and contented even in small things.
“Kasi sa totoong takbo ng buhay, kailangang maging wise sa mga desisyon, yung magiging happy and contented ka.”
Once you enter the testing center, there’s no turning back.
That’s what hit me in my UPCAT days. And now, interviewing aspiring Iskolars
ng Bayan during UPCAT 2020 brought back many memories when it was my time
taking the exam. As expected, it was not easy and it was a long process.
Every year, hundred thousand of aspirants were taking
University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) hoping for them to
have the chance to be an Isko/Iska.
One of the aspirants is Ruth Jercy Baquiran, a Grade 12 student of Regional Science High School for Region 2 (RSHS-02). University of the Philippines is her ideal school for its quality education which nurtures and open not just one’s mind but also heart in consciousness on what’s happening in our nation and to have deeper knowledge on issues.
Last October 5, the day has finally come, the day she has
been waiting for so long. As she entered the testing center, she realized that her
rivals are not just all the other examinees but also herself. So, she just
focused on her strengths even though she knew that there were so many more
intelligent than her and finally trusted and laid down all her worries to God.
But after the exam, the exhausting day was replaced by being thankful and happy as she saw her friends waiting for her and greeted each other ‘Congratulations’.
Her story is just one of the 100,000 examinees but their dreams unite them as one, that is to be an ISKOLAR NG BAYAN!
