If I could tell myself

My first semester is nearing its conclusion and it has been really tough ride. If I only had a chance to go back in time, I would give myself these 5 tips; review earlier, step up, be more active, be more persistent, do not lose confidence.

Review Earlier

During the first few months and first exams, I really did not bother much to review. I believe that I am capable of passing without intensive reviewing and I failed to realize that I am no longer in San Jose City, my comfort zone. I had such low grades in my exams, grades that I’ve never got in my previous years. I wish that I could’ve told my early self that I should review early and not cram any exam because UP is much different from what I got used to.

Step Up

This tip is like a continuation of the first tip. Stepping out is really necessary here in UP because anyone who is still in his comfort zone will surely by shocked and shot down by unexpected things in UP. I would yell at my earlier self, “hoy umalis ka na jan!”

Be more active

DevCom is about being involved with the community and with people, it is really necessary to be active and involved. I was active but now I realized that it was not active enough. If I were to go back, I would tell myself to be more active as a student in class, in the university, and in the college.

Be more persistent

Keep driving towards the goal! These past few months I lost my drive and I lost my persistence. If I were to go back, I would tell myself that I need to keep striving and not give up. College will really break a student’s drive if he/she fails to keep a burning passion for what he/she is doing.

Do not lose confidence

Another thing that college can break is confidence, I know because it broke mine during the hell weeks. But I thank God, my family, and loves ones because I was able to get my confidence back and continue the fight in college.

Better

On the early weeks of the semester, I made a self-assessment of my skills and qualities. Now that the semester is ending, I believe that the course helped me be a better media writer and so I end this semester with an updated assessment of who I am.

But before doing so, look at where I started as a media writer by clicking Here.

Assessment

I’ve really improved thanks to all the lessons that I’ve learned from all the courses. A single course did not bring me to where I am right now, I am brought here by every single thing I’ve learned in UPLB.

chill~

There are times when students have to face a pile of studying and deadlines, which often results to stress piling up as well. To combat this, we must learn how to let go of stress and chill. Here are 3 ways I find beneficial when fighting stress on hell weeks.

YouTube and Chill!

Stop worrying and give yourself some time to relax. Go watch some videos of your favorite YouTuber and just chill. Letting yourself take a break is beneficial for your productivity which sounds counter-intuitive. But doing so will let you remove your mind off things and when you get back to studying you will be able to do more. It will also prevent you from reaching your burn out point.

So go ahead and watch some YouTube videos and chill!

Eat!

“Eating can raise your spirits when you are low, soothe you when you are tense, and distract you when you are upset” – Ellyn Satter.

Stress eating might sound bad, but it’s really great! It’s often called emotional eating because some use it as a coping mechanism. It’s not bad if you don’t overdo it, make sure that you don’t overeat! Just get yourself some comfort foods and let your stress be drowned in your belly.

But remember, don’t overdo it!

Travel!

We often associate places with stress or bad things, so go around places that will relax you. Go to a garden or hang out with your friends and travel together. Travelling doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll go somewhere far. You just need to go somewhere away from stress and calm down. Be happy where you are and leave your worries behind.

Remember when doing these 3, you’re not running away from your problem, you’re just letting go of the stress. We all must face our problems or even our demons and when we do any of these we are actually forgetting about the stress, not the problem itself. We are just recharging our batteries and getting ready to fight again.

Above all, we must PRAY and surrender our worries while doing anything that removes stress.
