Chill ka lang…

College is not easy. It will surely test your patience and perseverance. With a heavy workload, it can be considered exhausting. Sometimes, the best option is to acknowledge you’re tired and you have to take a break.

But… how do we take a break?

Here are some tips on how to chill and to set aside your academics for a while:

HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT

Grab a snack after a long time studying. Get your favorite chocolate to ease the stress for a while. Munch some cereals for you to have something in your belly. Besides, it’s hard to think if you have an empty stomach.

TAKE A SHOWER

Freshen up for you to feel better. When you’re comfortable, it will improve your mindfulness. It can also uplift your mood that can help you concentrate better.

GET SOME SLEEP

Stop if you feel overwhelmed. After reviewing for some time, take a nap. You can retain a lot of information if you’re well-rested.

CONVERSE WITH YOUR LOVED ONES

Most importantly, find strength in the people you love. They will serve as an inspiration for you to finish the job. When you’re tired and unmotivated, talk to them about how you feel; they will surely spark the energy to keep you going.

Ma. Regina Briones Minas is an alumna of UPLB. She studied in the university for three and a half years. She graduated from BS Nutrition in October 1991.

The university taught her how to be resilient. She faced setbacks such as failing the midterms of Math 14 that made her decide to drop the course. According to her, this obstacle made her stronger and wiser.

“Getting a failing mark is not the end of the world. I cried about that grade for a day or two. I learned that it’s okay not to feel okay. What is not fine is to forever stick in an unpleasant situation.

When I got that said score in the midterm exam, I knew that I won’t be able to make up for my grades. I decided to drop the course without evaluation for me to avoid a failed mark in my TOR. After that incident, the vacant time for that subject that I dropped was still used to study for it in preparation for the next semester. I also made an extra effort by sitting in the class of another professor and by studying the notes of my friends taking the same subject but taught by another instructor. The following semester, I took the subject again and that time I completed it with an exemption from taking the final exams!”

Get ready for the test!

PREPARE yourself

Make sure you are mentally prepared. Do not force yourself to study; hence, condition yourself that you are going to study. Start reviewing a week before the exams. The night before the test just serves as a refresher.

plan

A way to get ready is by making a review schedule. It will serve as your guide to the things you have to finish. It also tracks your progress whenever you study.

schedule your breaks

Don’t forget to sleep! You can’t concentrate when you’re not well-rested. Taking a break is as important as studying for the test.

Get your things ready

Check if there are things you have to bring to be able to take the test. Make sure you have everything you need. The requirements should be prepared the night before the test.

pray

When you feel anxious, ask for divine intervention. Prayers can make you feel at ease and helps you concentrate. Seek guidance to remember everything you’ve studied on your exam day.

1st Data Gathering

It is easy for our group to gather data from Barangay Mayondon. We helped each other out to have a smooth retrieval of information. We share the task equally that made us meet the deadline.

The first thing we did was to plan out how we will execute the task. We agreed that we have to go to the barangay on August 30, since all of us have the same 2-hour break on that day. We decided to go right away to the barangay for us not to disturb their lunch break. We also looked for the directions of the place for us to save time.

The barangay quickly accommodated us when we politely asked for the information we needed. They directed us to Secretary Diozon’s office. She provided the data we wanted by giving a copy of the documents.

I learned a lot from that experience. These are some of my realizations:

Importance of teamwork

Believe when they say that teamwork makes a dream work. It is necessary to communicate with your group mates. Your team needs everyone’s cooperation to finish the assignment immediately. Everyone must contribute and participate for you to produce high-quality outputs.

Be prepared

Your team must be ready. You should have a plan on how you will conduct your data gathering. You must agree to where and when you will do your project. You need to assign a task for each one to weigh your project’s progress. If the activity requires you to go outside the campus, make sure to check the directions beforehand. Also, have a meeting place and be there on time.

Be polite

Always be professional. Respect and thank the people you work with and the ones who helped you with your project. You also need to comply with their schedules and policies. Always tactfully converse. Be considerate of their decisions and protect their privacy.
