Despite the 4th Industrial Revolution where anything can be found in the internet, some things are still left unclear. Many people, including family and friends, are wondering what we do in development communication. Some of us are hesitant what to say when asked on how devcom is different from other communication courses. There are still a lot of questions that are left unanswered. And we ought to make thing clear this time.
Watch our video about the top 3 most common questions about development communication.
Before I started writing my entries for blog 6050, I was asking myself, “Do I really need to do this?” They are good writers and they have the skills. I am not a writer like them and I don’t have the passion for writing. Based on my rating that I gave for myself, I got a lot of 3 and 2. As the semester ends, let’s see if there’s an improvement.
I can say that at least there are qualities and skills that has improvement. All of the tasks that our professors gave us especially during our DEVC11 laboratory helped me hone my qualities and skills. At first, I was struggling. I don’t know if I did it right. But after all of those activities, I can say that I improved.
UPLB was one of the chosen universities honored to be visited by the two educational buses- The Science Explorer and the NuLAb- brought by The Department of Science and Technology- Science and Education (DOST- SEI) on November 11- 15, 2019.
The success of the The Science Explorer, led to the launching of the second science bus, the NuLab. It is primarily intended for senior high school students. Equipped with a huge interactive board, individual monitor for students, laboratory-grade equipment, wireless sensors and more, nuLab offers a modern mobile learning environment that can help pique students’ interest in the sciences. It can accommodate 24 students in one session and hold two sessions per day.
The NuLab caters more scientific topics and offers simulation of activities that researchers actually do in the field. The facilitators were researchers and most of them are PhD degree holders. NuLab tour was a great experience and has left a huge impact on the students to explore more about space science, entomology, mathematics, and science communication.
The College of Development Communication aims to foster the holistic development of the students through engagement in physical activities, and pageants. As the CDCIKLABAN was held last November 9 and 16, 2019 at Baker Hall, not only sports got exciting. The search for Mr. and Ms. CDCIKLABAN 2019 was also on fire!
Eight contestants (freshmen and sophomores)competed gracefully for the crown and all of them proved that CDC students got beauty and more brains. The pageant was divided into parts mainly; production number, sports attire, casual wear, and the question and answer portion.
The results of the pageant were a combination of the student’s choice of candidates and the decision of the judges. The crown for Mr. and Ms. CDCIKLABAN 2019 was awarded to Rudy Parel and Kriszia Prologo.
I know you’re thinking of “sana ginawa ko ‘to”, “sana pinaghusayan ko”, “sana pinag-aralan ko”, and ” sana maibabalik ko pa”. This semester will end soon and you have regrets. I can’t blame you. Studying here at UP wasn’t part of your plan and also the course that was given to you. You really don’t have any idea what the course is and the activities. SMILE, girl. You did a great job and I hope that next semester you’ll do better. Please girl, don’t forget to do these tips. (Magsisisi ka na naman sa huli)
DO IT NOW.
If you have plenty of time, do it now please. Don’t use your phone or put it near you. You’ll end up browsing the internet, sharing and reacting on Facebook memes, watching Korean or Chinese dramas, and playing mobile games. If you have readings, please read it already. I know how much you hate reading a bunch in just a day or two.
LISTEN and FOCUS.
Girl, listen to your professors. Again, don’t use you phone inside the lecture hall. I know that you want to talk to your seatmates/friends and to tell stories or chikas, but you can share them after the lecture. I want you to listen and to focus so that it will be easy for you to review all your notes for your quizzes and exams. Do you still want to read a lot of PowerPoint presentations and still do not understand? Girl, do not repeat what you did in the ECON11 lecture (should I say, all lectures?) Ikaw rin lang ang mahihirapan.
WAKE UP EARLY.
Get up at 5:00 a.m. and not 6:30 a.m. because it takes you an hour or more to prepare. You have 7:00 a.m. class and you should be there at 6:50 a.m. Girl, don’t be late and be sure to eat your breakfast. Remember, huwag kang agaw-atensiyon tuwing umaga.
MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY.
You should have time for yourself and for your acads. I can still remember that you almost forgot that it’s your special day and you have to celebrate it. Your friends from UPD and PUP were looking for you thay day but you didn’t go out with them because you still have to finish your requirements. You should give yourself time to rest and to enjoy. You know how to balance chemicals so you should also know how to balance your time.
ENJOY LIFE.
I know that you were struggling at first because you were alone in that college and your friend was at the College of Arts and Sciences. You didn’t know what to say to others or if it’s good to approach them first. You didn’t even want to wear shorts if you want to go out and to take a stroll. I want you to enjoy and to try new things. I want to see you smile even though you have a lot of problems in your mind. I know that you can do it. Girl, have fun too. You have your friends with you.

During the Alumni Homecoming in Elbi, we have interviewed three of the Finishers. We’ve asked them the question: “ How was your experience in UPLB?”. We got different reactions in response and we realized, their experiences aren’t so different from others.
But, it’s their methods of survival that make them unique. Bow down to the Finishers.
The word “Cauayan” comes from the dialect of the Gaddangs which means bamboo. Cauayan City ranked as the 10th highest land area among the 37 local government units of Isabela engaged in agriculture, trade and commerce, and services. It is a melting pot, the center for tobacco industry of the north, a cosmopolitan place where people of rich and diverse cultures co-mingled, and known as the “Mushroom City of the North”.
