On the 101st Loyalty Day here in the University of the Philippines Los Baños, or the celebration of UP students and faculty serving the call of duty, honor and country during the first world war, I was able to interview one of UPLB’s alumni about his experiences and the key lessons he has learned during his stay in UPLB. His name is Wenceslao Dela Viña, batch 78 of Agricultural Engineering, and batch 84 of Masters in Agricultural Engineering.
He stated that he chose UP because of his two elder sisters, who also studied in the same university.
Before hindi required, tapos ayun nakapasa ako kaya dito ako nag-aral sa UP.
Wenceslao, Los Baños
During his stay in UP, he said that he has learned two things, being a critical thinker and the need to serve the country.
Ang isa ay yung critical thinking, you have to reason out, kailangan idefend mo yung mga ideas mo, hindi spoonfeeding kasi sa UP eh and the need to serve the country.

On the days of November 11-15, 2019, the Department of Science and Technology visited Los Baños by sending its two buses to present the elementary, high school and college students its new mobile science learning facility, the “nuLab.”
As students taking BS Development Communication in University of the Philippines Los Baños, many will approach and ask, “What is DevCom?,” “Is it like MassCom, but with a heart?,” or “What jobs/opportunities will you get from taking DevCom course?” At first, we have no idea what to say. After weeks studying, we now have answers to those questions. Here is a video introducing Development Communication and the top three questions answered by BS DevCom freshmen students.

It is the time of the year again where students line up to take the most anticipated college entrance test in the country, the University of the Philippines College Admission Test or UPCAT.
This happened on October 5-6, 2019 that took place in the different parts of the country, and here in the Bulacan State University, one of UPCAT’s testing centers, I was able to interview an examinee about his experiences in UPCAT and why he chose to take it.
He said that he was really so nervous before taking the UPCAT since it was so special for him to pass it.
Nagaral ako para sa UPCAT til the night before.
Marcel, Bulacan
And when he was asked why he took the exam, he said that he want to pass it because it is the most prestigious university in the Philippines, plus the green environment and the open-mindedness within it. He also added that since he was a child, he was already exposed in the surroundings of the university which led to his desire of entering it.

Interviewee: Sobrang saya po namin kasi first time po kaming nanalo at first time din pong nagawa yung grupo namin.
For our week 2 entry, we assess ourselves by rating our qualities and skills as a media writer and here are the previous results:

and now that the semester is about to end, here is my updated assessment of my qualities and skills as a media writer:

As you can see, most of them have improved but some are not, and those improvements still have not reached its maximum capability. This explains that my first semester in development communication had helped me enhance my qualities and skills but still need a few upgrades.
My time here in development communication has been a stressful but fun journey. It taught me a lot about different things, it added further knowledge on the things I do know already plus it showed me things I have no knowledge about, particularly in the present social issues. Indeed, it was a memorable journey, a one for the books experience.

Do not spend most of your time using social media and playing video games. It is fine as long as you balance it with your academics.
Start doing the assigned project or assignment once you receive it. I’m telling you, procrastinating will bring you no good, but stress.
Read the assigned readings given by the professors in order to keep up with the lectures and/or discussions.
Befriending with different people helps you to easily adjust in your new environment especially with those who experience the same thing.
This is hard to accomplish especially when you are in a new environment, but in everything you do, find happiness out of it.
