First Semester Journey as A Development Communicator in Training
The semester is about to end but this is just the beginning of the lifelong journey that I will experience as a development communicator in training. I can still vividly remember the first time I entered the college building. I was in complete awe about everything for I was eager to learn new things. I knew for a fact that I am not in anyway the best because this is UP. However my motivation to keep going is first, to genuinely serve my countrymen enabling them to experience development and second, to be able to improve myself not only for my benefit but more so for the benefit of this country.
I have realized that through my first semester journey I was able to improve my communication skills through the conduct of various interviews with both MOS (man-on-the-street) and likewise with the expert. It is also significant to really experience the lessons that we have discussed through news coverage. It is not enough to memorize all the things we have learned inside the four corners of the classroom, what is a more in-depth learning is the application of those theories and topics in the real world. Only through experiencing those topics will you truly value and understand its significance.
Moreover, it is necessary to uphold the truth and the credibility of the news because nowadays the proliferation of disinformation and misinformation is rampant. Let us consider that media plays an important part in nation building for it has the ability to manipulate the minds of the audience. Therefore, the news I write must be accurate enough.
I strongly believe that my weakest points during the start of the semester which is gathering information and being resourceful has been enhanced through both lecture and laboratory exercises. I was able to realize that when things did not go the way I planned it, I should be able to cope up smoothly with the changes rather than being upset over it and thus being unable to do anything. Remember that life goes on even if you are not yet ready so bear in mind that you should keep on moving forward.
Lastly, I want to reiterate that this has been a good semester. Even if there are a lot of uninvited situations that have happened, I believe that it is meant to happen in order for me to know and understand deeply the ideals and aspirations of being a development communicator. I am likewise happy that I have been able to improve my skills. I have realized that it is not an excuse if I am not knowledgeable on a certain thing rather I should be open for new learnings for that is the only way to overall improve myself.

An Open Book Chapter
This semester is almost over and I am thankful that I have gained a lot of knowledge through the experiences I have undertaken. However there are still points for improvement.
I am still in awe of the fact that I have survived a semester in the country’s top university. One semester feels like a year for it really literally and figuratively drained my energy yet it is quite a memorable experience. If only I have been more prepared about foreseeing the things that will happen, I might have been more focused.
Here is my letter to my old self as a first time university student:
“Hey there! I know exactly that you are scared of going out and venturing into a whole new environment. I also know that you have anxieties and you are pressured to maintain the academic standings you have once established but dear I want you to know that in college you have your own pace and time. It is not about who finishes first, it is about self discovery and to which you can improve yourself thereafter. I want you to know this 5 tips in order to survive the semester: study harder because everyone else is smarter than you; avoid procrastination as much as possible to stop prolonging your agony and to have time for revisions; give the best in everything so that you may never regret about its results; surround yourself with positivity for a negative mind will never give you a positive life, and lastly; love yourself by rewarding yourself for the efforts you have done. Remember you did your best, thus, it is enough. I love you and you will do great!
College life is really a big ocean, either I will drown and sink at the bottom or help myself by swimming. I know that this is only the beginning of the fulfillment of my dreams so I have to keep on moving forward. This will be an open chapter of the book I am making for it is not yet done. May this serve as a lesson and inspiration for me to do better in the coming semester. Likewise, I would like to encourage you all to also refuse to be just an audience to your own life rather be the scriptwriter of your own existence.

Is it the Season to be Jolly?
It’s already November and just a few weeks from now, it will be the holiday season. But is it really the season to be jolly? For us, college students, I bet not for it is at this time where we take our examinations, submit tons of requirements and do many academic related stuff in order for us to pass the subject or get a higher grade. This period is fondly called as the hell week. Now, how do we chill after accomplishing all tasks? Here are just some of the things that I do after a long week:
- Getting enough sleep. It is neededto have an adequate restafter several sleepless nights due to cramming and finishing requirements. This allows my body to regain the energy that I have lost.
- Watching. Since the week is over, I watch documentaries, films and other interesting videos online. This does not only serve as a de-stressor but likewise provide additional information about things in life.
- Going to thrift-shops. I love clothes! This is the main reason why I go to thrift-shops (ukay-ukay) because I love seeing and trying clothes on. Additionally, clothes there are unique and cheaper compared to clothes that are sold online, at the malls or elsewhere. It also relieves me of stress whenever I can pull off an outfit for the day because it somehow boosts my confidence.
- Bonding with family and friends. I needed to bond with the people close to my heart because they give me so much energy to pursue on my dreams and endeavours. Their support and appreciation feeds my soul and being, thus, gives me the power to do the things I thought I can’t.
These activities I do may seem boring but it’s my way of coping up with stress. I believe that rest is important for the body and mind to function well. Likewise establishing a strong relationship with your family and friends enables your soul to shine because these people fuels your passion. I hope that I have inspired you to discover the activities that suit your being. Have a nice week in the university!
