Manage your time wisely
Do not spend most of your time using social media and playing video games. It is fine as long as you balance it with your academics.
Do not procrastinate
Start doing the assigned project or assignment once you receive it. I’m telling you, procrastinating will bring you no good, but stress.
Do advance readings
Read the assigned readings given by the professors in order to keep up with the lectures and/or discussions.
Make friends
Befriending with different people helps you to easily adjust in your new environment especially with those who experience the same thing.
Be happy
This is hard to accomplish especially when you are in a new environment, but in everything you do, find happiness out of it.
Growth assessment, improved!
After how many months, one semester has already passed. As I look back at my previous weekly writes, week 2, I tried reassessing myself as a media writer. With this, I can say that I have improved so much since the first lecture we had in our class. These lectures helped me to analyze and think critically about the things around me and have new knowledge of the things that I usually see. Having that as a reason, here are the updated version of my previous diagnostic of I as a media writer.
Qualities
Gladly, with the help of the activities combined in our recit and lecture class. Most of the ratings improved, like the quality of being curious, intelligent, resourceful and industrious. Some of which stayed the same as the interest in people and being service-oriented since I already rated it as 1. Moreover, because of my learning this semester, my enthusiasm for people became better making me want to serve them better.
Skills
On the other hand, in my skills as a media writer, few of it improved. Despite that, I am grateful to improve in the way I write. As we are immersed in writing in our recit classes it helped me to improve in my writing since we usually have plenty of drafts before the final output. It helped me to reassess and refine the work I’ve done.
In totality, I am grateful that I have learned so much this semester, not only as a media writer but also how to become a responsible citizen of our country by always putting integrity in the works I do.

From then to now
When I entered UP and realized that I am studying for Development Communication. I really did not know what I was getting into. With not enough knowledge with news writing and editing softwares, I am like a sore thumb among many. During our week 2, it is clearly seen that I did not rate myself high not enough, but somewhere in the middle.
The reason behind that is because I know that I have been doing these things but I am certainly not giving my best shot. I am still working on my own enemy which is procrastination and habit of saying “okay na yan” up to this day. But as I progress through the semester, I did not expect to learn a lot and work on these skills that I rated somewhat low before.
I learned a lot of things for the first time. There are some skills that I have sharpened and I learned a lot in using media tools since I was required to use them in my weekly write outputs. From where I am now, I must say that I am now at a uno standing, but not exactly at a flat one. I am thankful for the experiences and activities that helped me sharpened my skills throughout the semester, and truly excited for what’s in store for me in the coming semesters.
