Pasko sa Elbi

Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!

I had no plans of checking how its going to happen even if it has been promoted a number of times already.

There has been change of dates and coincidentally, it became mandatory. Either way, it was an enjoyable experience, coming from someone who isn’t excited about Christmas.

Ending the Sem with a Grateful Heart

Ah at last, I’ve come to the last part of Blog 6050! When I first started writing here, I was quite reluctant to what type of outputs should I post. However, as the sem goes by, I let my mind and my fingers sync in order to create posts. In the second week of this entry, we were able to assess how we are as writers. With the many lessons I’ve learned from my devcom classses, I must say I improved, maybe not a lot but enough to make me consider myself a better me.

I started the semester with me having a rating of 2 in terms of being curious or inquisitive. I must say that with the things I was exposed to throughout the semester, I developed having to question anything, may it be devcom related or not. As for me being intelligent, I learned quite a lot regarding different topics that made me enhance my way of thinking. I am now quite resourceful and persevering too since the course really demands a development communicator-in-training to be one in order to create outputs that are worthy to be read about.

I was also able to further develop my ability to put a premium on accuracy and truth since our devcom courses put emphasis on this aspect especially when writing sensitive issues. I also develop my habit of imagining things in order to further enhance what I’m doing or going to do. This allows me to think of alternative ways when my initial plan didn’t happen from what I expected.

Aside from these, I also became more service-oriented and my love for others intensify because of the topics that I was exposed to during my devcom classes. I’ve met different kinds of people along the way that made me more interested to devcom. My love for reading also intensifies because I realized that the more I read, the more I can develop the way I write and talk. However, one thing that I didn’t overcome this semester is me being lazy. Procrastinating and cramming requirements seem to be my hobby this semester and I intend to end it in the upcoming semesters, hopefully.

Aside from these, I was also able to enhance my ability in organizing information. At the start of the semester, I said that I found it difficult for me to distinguish which data should be relevant and should be included. Now, I was able to develop my skill in organizing these information through jotting them down in a one notebook and separating them by each categories.

As the semester ends, I want to cherish all the lessons that I’ve learned for they are the reasons why I was able develop into a better person, especially a development communicator one. As another semester begins, I am ready to become a much better individual than I am today.

DEVCOMination Level 1

“Devcom? Ano ‘yun?”

That has been the only question we can get from family and friends when asked what Development Communication is. It is difficult to explain for hundreds of times most especially to children interested with what you are supposed to do in the future. Why not make it enjoyable, then?

DEVCOMination is a fictional game created to showcase the definitions and succeeding topics of Devcom. Starting off with Level 1, answering the ultimate question of what it really is.

Dear @self

Hi! 1st sem is almost done and here you are, sick but still alive! I know you’ve been feeling bumped out because this is your round 2 on being a first year student since you’ve transferred out from your previous school but look at the bright side, that means you’ll be more ready for upcoming challenges! After experiencing 3 semesters, you’ll be tougher for another sem in UPLB.

You’ve been anxious ever since the thought of transferring to UP entered your head. The thought scared you. You thought little of yourself. You felt lost more than ever. But guess what? It wasn’t as bad as you thought. You weren’t the only one who lost your way. In fact, almost everyone is trying to search for themselves. So don’t be too hard on your self. You’ll know what I’m talking about once you’re in the actual battle field. But for now, here’s a little push to help you get through the first weeks of classes.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

this is you doing a weekly write while eating, in a conference…..

As you’ve read in the beginning, yes you’re sick at the moment. But don’t worry, you have no classes or exams anymore. BUT THEN AGAIN! Remember to take care of yourself. There will be times that you will barely have time for yourself but that doesn’t mean you should jeopardize your health. Eat. Sleep. Stay hydrated! Your performance in class is better when you’re in shape!

Put yourself out there

Don’t be shy. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t isolate yourself. JUST DON’T BE AFRAID OF PEOPLE. There will be times that you will need others. I know you want to be a strong, independent woman but independence doesn’t mean you should hide yourself in a cave. Make friends. Most of the people in UPLB are friendly.

YOU’LL get THROUGH

There will be times when you’ll just want to give up. The requirements are simultaneously piling up, there’s an exam/quiz the next day, and so many more things that could go wrong. No matter what challenges you face ahead, trust me, you’ll get through them. Who can you trust more than ever but yourself right?

this is you sleeping on a bench in OPark before an exam

YOU’RE NOT YOUR SCORES

You will study as hard as you can. You will put your heart out for your essays. But sometimes, high scores are just not for you, and that’s completely okay! That means you have so much room for improvement. You’ll get to learn more! Your scores will not define who you are as a student or as a person.

HAVE FUN

I know you’re a “gusto ko na umuwi” person but it sometimes it pays to just let loose. Go out with your friends. Smile. Laugh. Have fun. Let your emotions out. It will help ease your burdens.

Those are just the little things I can help you with, for now. Hang tight. Be tough, just like you’ve always been. But don’t forget to be soft too, you still need to be a normal person. Cry like a person. Hurt like a person. Get tired like a person. Be happy like a person. Remember that you’ll always got your back.
